Advocates in Action: G100 Day on the Hill in Albany

Big I New York members from across the state gathered in Albany last week for the Group of 100 (G100) Day on the Hill, meeting directly with legislators to advocate for meaningful insurance reforms and to highlight the essential role independent agents play in protecting New Yorkers, their families, and their businesses.
Despite cold weather and snow, the turnout was incredible, and the conversations were thoughtful, productive, and impactful. Our members shared firsthand how families and businesses rely on their vehicles to get to work, serve their communities, and deliver essential services. They also discussed how auto insurance fraud and abusive litigation ultimately drive higher premiums for everyday New Yorkers. Legislators heard clearly that reforming no-fault insurance to ensure prompt payment for legitimate, documented claims, while removing incentives for fraud and speculative lawsuits, is critical.
G100 members also addressed the need for a single “insurance producer” license, noting that New York remains one of the few jurisdictions operating under a dual agent and broker licensure system. Streamlining licensing would reduce administrative burden and lower compliance costs while still maintaining strong consumer protections. In addition, discussions included long-overdue Scaffold Law reform, which continues to inflate construction and insurance costs without improving worker safety.
G100 members capped off the day alongside the Big I New York Board of Directors at a legislative reception, where lawmakers from across the state met with local agents and brokers and deepened their understanding of today’s insurance marketplace.
Thank you to the legislators who took time to meet with our members, and to every G100 participant who braved the elements to ensure our industry’s voice was heard. Advocacy like this makes a difference, and there has never been a more important time to be engaged.
