2026 Big I NY Local Leaders Summit

The strength of Big I NY starts at the local level, where dedicated volunteer leaders work year-round to support independent insurance agents and strengthen their communities.

That commitment was on full display October 5th and 6th as local association leaders from across the state gathered in Cazenovia for the 9th Annual Big I NY Local Leaders Summit!

The two-day event brought together both new and returning attendees for an opportunity to exchange ideas, learn from one another, and explore new ways to better serve members in their regions.

Sharing Ideas and Strengthening Local Associations

Local associations are at the heart of Big I NY, connecting members with valuable resources while giving independent agents a stronger voice in their communities.

The Summit provided an opportunity for local leaders to discuss the challenges they’re facing, share what’s working in their regions, and discover new approaches to member engagement.

Throughout the event, Big I NY staff shared practical resources and strategies that leaders can bring back to their local associations. Sessions focused on strengthening member engagement through community service and grassroots legislative advocacy. Attendees also participated in a hands-on workshop exploring how artificial intelligence (AI) can help them work more effectively in their roles as local leaders.

For many first-time attendees, the Summit also offered a chance to build relationships with fellow volunteers who share their commitment to supporting the independent agency community.

Building Connections Beyond the Meeting Room

Of course, the Summit wasn’t all business!

Despite some windy weather, attendees brought plenty of enthusiasm to a lively cornhole tournament. The friendly competition provided a little fun and an opportunity for leaders to connect outside the meeting room.

The camaraderie continued during an evening reception and group dinner with the Big I NY Board of Directors. It was a chance to strengthen relationships, continue conversations from the day’s sessions, and enjoy time together.

Looking Ahead Through Open Conversation

The following morning, Big I NY Chair Dave Borg and President & CEO Lisa Lounsbury led an interactive town hall discussion focused on the future of local associations.

Leaders shared what they’re seeing and hearing from members in their regions, discussed emerging challenges, and offered feedback on how Big I NY can better support their efforts.

The conversation reinforced the importance of keeping communication open between Big I NY and its local associations. By understanding the unique needs of different regions, the organization can continue providing meaningful support that helps local leaders succeed.

Stronger Together

The 9th Annual Local Leaders Summit was a reminder of the important role local associations play in the success of Big I NY and the independent agency system.

From sharing practical ideas to building stronger relationships, attendees left with new perspectives and a renewed sense of connection to their fellow leaders.

Thank you to all the volunteer leaders who joined us in Cazenovia and to those who dedicate their time and energy to supporting Big I NY members throughout the year. Your commitment helps keep our local associations strong and our independent agency community moving forward.
