NYDFS Grants 30-Day Grace Period on Cyber Filing and License Renewals

Persistent advocacy pays off. The New York State Department of Financial Services (DFS) has confirmed to Big I New York a 30-day grace period for agencies struggling to complete their cybersecurity compliance filings due to DFS ID system issues. This follows more than a month of ongoing outreach and discussions with DFS, and we are pleased to share this update with members.

When many of our members reported difficulty setting up new DFS ID accounts–a necessary step for filing–our team went to work. Through multiple conversations, detailed feedback, and direct engagement with DFS leadership, we outlined the impact these technical problems were having on independent agencies statewide.

DFS listened. The department confirmed that any agency documenting delays tied to DFS ID setup will receive a 30‑day courtesy extension to submit their annual cybersecurity compliance submission, moving the filing deadline to May 15, 2026. Delays must be documented through the DFS ID Help Form.

Similarly, if you are having technical issues with DFS ID during the license renewal process and show that you are working with DFS to try to renew your license by submitting a Help Form ticket, your license will not expire

We thank DFS for their willingness to collaborate and for recognizing the challenges our members were facing. Their responsiveness reflects the value of maintaining an open, constructive relationship between regulators and the independent agency community.

This outcome is a clear example of the power and value of your association membership. Big I New York consistently advocates for practical solutions that help agents stay focused on serving clients – whether it’s cybersecurity regulation compliance, auto insurance affordability, or navigating today’s hard market.

If your agency is still experiencing DFS ID issues, submit a DFS ID Help Form as soon as possible to ensure you receive the extension
