We are a team of hard-working individuals dedicated to the insurance industry because we believe in the independent agents who work diligently for their customers. We represent over 1,450 agencies and their 13,000 employees, meaning we work hard to foster a sense of community among independent agents.

We are the voice of agencies of every size, from small, family-owned agencies to agencies with offices across the state; in every area, including the rural corners of the Adirondacks to the bustling neighborhoods of New York City. No matter where you’re from or how big or small you are, Big I New York has your back.

We help agencies work smarter and grow stronger through targeted resources designed to improve every aspect of operations. Our consulting services provide expert guidance on technical insurance queries, operational evaluations, E&O risk, workflow optimization, and tech adoption—delivering actionable insights tailored to your agency’s needs.

Members also receive free access to Catalyit, the leading insurtech resource platform, which simplifies technology decisions with reviews, vendor comparisons, and implementation support. Our staff development resources—including training tools for both new hires and established teams—support a culture of continuous learning and performance improvement.

Beyond training, we offer a broad range of operational agency resources such as the Answer Center, cybersecurity compliance guidance, agency valuation and perpetuation planning, hard market support, industry intel, and customizable marketing tools. We drive grassroots advocacy by equipping independent agents with the tools, relationships, and platforms to influence real change at both the state and federal levels. Through our G100 network and Government Affairs Committee, members build strong connections with lawmakers and champion policies that protect and strengthen the independent agency system. We also provide carrier advocacy resources to help agents navigate challenges and engage in meaningful dialogue with their appointed carriers.

Our political action committees—IAPAC (state) and InsurPac (federal)—extend that influence by supporting candidates who understand and advocate for our industry. From local meetings to national campaigns, every action our members take helps ensure that independent agents are not only heard, but respected in Albany, Washington D.C., and beyond.

We are committed to advancing the knowledge, skills, and confidence of independent agents through accessible, results-driven learning. Our extensive catalog of education classes provides CE opportunities across a range of topics, while our self-study resources offer flexibility without sacrificing quality.

Our annual E&O Seminar helps protect your agency by combining legal insight with practical risk management strategies.
