Dec. 19, 2013 — Despite Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s veto of a bill dealing with certificates of insurance abuse, the Independent Insurance Agents & Brokers of New York today said it will not give up on the issue.
Nov. 14, 2013 — The Independent Insurance Agents & Brokers of New York (IIABNY) today applauded the final approval of a new measure that frees insurance producers to better serve their clients. New York Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo signed Senate Bill 2894A into law yesterday. IIABNY supported the bill’s passage in the New York State Legislature earlier this year.
Oct. 8, 2013 - New York’s scaffolding law is harming the state’s economy, a spokesman for the Independent Insurance Agents & Brokers of New York (IIABNY) told the State Senate today. IIABNY Chair of the Board Andrew Kaufman said that the law should either be reformed or repealed outright.
Oct. 7, 2013 - The Independent Insurance Agents & Brokers of New York (IIABNY) has again received honors for its work in insurance education. It accepted the 2013 Excellence in Insurance Education (EIE) Diamond Award from the Independent Insurance Agents & Brokers of America (IIABA) at a ceremony in San Antonio, Texas last month. This is the ninth time that IIABNY has received the award and the third consecutive year.
Sept. 23, 2013 - What should be done about the ballooning federal debt? That will be the topic of a panel discussion this week, hosted by the Independent Insurance Agents & Brokers of New York (IIABNY), the Travelers Institute, and two Long Island insurance producer groups. Sept. 11, 2013 - Twelve independent insurance agencies in New York State have been recognized as among the top performing agencies in the country. All 12 are members of the Independent Insurance Agents & Brokers of New York (IIABNY), the state’s oldest insurance producer trade association.
Aug. 1, 2013 — The Independent Insurance Agents & Brokers of New York (IIABNY) and the New York State Association of Health Underwriters (NYSAHU) have announced a partnership to prepare insurance producers for the launch of the state’s health insurance exchange. The organizations will offer a course for producers in eight locations across New York, starting August 20.
June 20, 2013 — The Independent Insurance Agents & Brokers of New York, Inc. (IIABNY) won a major victory today when the Legislature passed its top legislative priority — a bill that will put an end to abusive certificates of insurance requests. New York’s oldest insurance producer trade organization called the action a victory for fair treatment of small businesses.
June 2, 2013 — The Independent Insurance Agents & Brokers of New York (IIABNY) today praised the New York State Senate for passing a measure that would curb abuse of certificates of insurance. The bill, which IIABNY played a major role in developing, cleared the Senate by a large margin on May 29. It has gone to the State Assembly for consideration there.

May 9, 2013 — The Independent Insurance Agents & Brokers of New York (IIABNY) today elected Andrew J. Kaufman as its chair of the board for the 2013-14 term. Kaufman took the oath of office during a ceremony following IIABNY’s Annual Business Meeting, held at The Otesaga Resort Hotel in Cooperstown. Members also elected and installed new officers and regional members of the board of directors.
Feb. 26, 2013 — The Independent Insurance Agents & Brokers of New York told state lawmakers today that the insurance industry “did an admirable job” after Superstorm Sandy battered the New York City metro area last fall. A group spokesman also said that the federal government’s slow processing of flood insurance claims has tarnished the industry’s reputation.

The fifth annual Capitol Day drew insurance professionals from all over the state to the Hotel Albany and the State Capitol.

Jan. 3, 2013 — The Independent Insurance Agents & Brokers of New York said today that the state’s forthcoming health insurance exchange; curbing abuse of insurance documents; and protecting coastal homeowners and renters will be its top priorities with lawmakers and regulators this year. New York’s oldest insurance producer trade organization will release its 2013 legislative position paper to state lawmakers early next week.
