As an underwriter for
IAAC, IIABNY’s membership services division, Denise Brown Carter is IIABNY’s go-to
resource for our members when it comes to all things personal umbrella. We took
her aside recently to pose five questions we knew she could easily answer in
her sleep because of her extensive experience working with agents.
IIABNY Insider: What is IAAC?
Denise: IAAC is a division within IIABNY that
provides errors and omissions, professional liability insurance for our members
and has a personal lines agency within IIABNY for our members to place personal
lines business without a premium volume commitment.
IIABNY Insider: Why should a member write
an umbrella policy through IAAC?
Denise: There are many, but my top two reasons
are that we are a one-stop shop with multiple markets to offer and the personal service that you get
throughout the umbrella’s life is much more than you would get at any other
agency. I take pride in the service I provide and I truly believe you will notice the difference.
IIABNY Insider: What are you likely
to expect when you call IAAC?
Denise: You’re going to get someone direct on the
phone to answer your questions, underwriting or policy status. You’re going to
be offered direct access to the system with RLI. And, you will get personalized
underwriting guidance. I love that I am able to be flexible, if you want me to handle it for you - no problem, if you want to have direct access - that's great too.
IIABNY Insider: How did you end up
working as an underwriter?
Denise: Well, I have a claims background. I spent 16
years as a claims adjuster, and I ended up going into the underwriting side for
the second half of my career. I was lucky enough to come on board at IAAC and
just enjoy the members and the business. I love insurance.
IIABNY Insider: Outside of insurance,
what are your interests?
Denise: My
family, spending family time. There are also outdoor activities, such as
walking, running and riding four-wheelers. Mostly my family is my main
activity.
